Twelve Securis, a leading investment management firm focused on catastrophe bonds and insurance-linked securities (ILS), is actively expanding its presence in Asia's institutional markets. The company recently solidified new distribution collaborations in Taiwan, partnering with Concord Capital Management and Uni-President. These alliances are central to Twelve Securis's broader strategy of extending its investment solutions across the region.

Twelve Securis Forges Key Alliances in Taiwan and Eyes Broader Asian Growth

In a significant move to enhance its footprint in the burgeoning Asian market, Twelve Securis, a specialized investment manager in the realm of catastrophe bonds and insurance-linked securities (ILS), announced new distribution partnerships in Taiwan. The firm has joined forces with Concord Capital Management, a financial services arm of Taiwan’s Concord Securities Group, and separately with Uni-President.

The collaboration with Concord Capital Management will focus on promoting an innovative alternative investment strategy centered primarily on catastrophe bonds. This initiative follows Concord Capital Management's recent qualification to participate in the Kaohsiung Asset Management Zone multi-channel business pilot program, providing a strategic entry point for these specialized investment products. Catastrophe bonds, known for their returns’ low correlation with conventional equity and fixed-income markets due to their natural disaster risk basis, offer a valuable tool for portfolio diversification, appealing to high-net-worth individuals and institutional clients seeking alternatives to traditional stock and bond allocations.

Vittorio Sangiorgio, Head of Investment Solutions at Twelve Securis, emphasized the strong and sustained interest from wealth management channels and major domestic institutional investors. He also underscored the critical importance of aligning with reputable local entities to successfully penetrate the Asian market. Through this partnership, Concord will also facilitate the distribution of various Twelve Securis offerings, including mixed ILS strategies, Restricted Tier 1 (RT1) instruments, and multi-asset solutions.

David Lay, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Concord Capital Management, affirmed his firm's dedication to enhancing local research capabilities while actively introducing distinctive overseas investment strategies that address market demands. By combining the robust asset management platform of the Concord Securities Group with international asset management resources and local insights, the company aims to deliver more comprehensive and diverse global asset allocation solutions to investors.

Separately, the recently formed partnership with Uni-President is slated to concentrate on a dedicated catastrophe bond fund, further solidifying Twelve Securis’s strategic expansion. Sangiorgio further revealed that Twelve Securis is also making significant inroads in other parts of Asia. In Japan, renewed interest in catastrophe bonds has led to a recent mandate from a sophisticated and esteemed financial institution. Furthermore, he highlighted the substantial potential for the ILS market in Korea, where Twelve Securis is developing an innovative mixed ILS product in partnership with Korean Re to support the origination of specific risks. Sangiorgio reiterated the necessity of strong and trusted local partners to foster confidence and maintain close relationships with investors.

Looking ahead, Twelve Securis is actively exploring the possibility of establishing a local presence in Singapore or Hong Kong, or eventually both, to serve as regional hubs. Sangiorgio noted the significant progress in investor understanding of the ILS asset class, observing growing demand across family offices, wealth management channels, and institutional investors. He also believes these markets are particularly well-suited for subordinated insurance debt strategies, given investors' existing familiarity with Bank AT1, making Insurance RT1 an attractive complementary allocation. Twelve Securis's overarching long-term vision for Asia involves cultivating a diverse regional presence through meticulously chosen partnerships and the provision of customized ILS investment solutions.

This strategic expansion by Twelve Securis underscores a growing trend in the financial industry: the increasing global demand for diversified investment solutions that offer resilience against traditional market volatility. The emphasis on local partnerships highlights the nuanced approach required to navigate diverse regulatory landscapes and cultural expectations within Asian markets. As institutional and high-net-worth investors seek innovative ways to optimize their portfolios, catastrophe bonds and ILS are emerging as increasingly attractive options. The firm's proactive engagement in key Asian financial centers like Taiwan, Japan, Korea, and potentially Singapore and Hong Kong, not only positions Twelve Securis for significant growth but also reflects a broader recognition of Asia's pivotal role in shaping the future of global alternative investments.
