AltStore PAL, a leading alternative iOS app marketplace initially launched within the European Union, is broadening its operational scope to include new territories. This strategic expansion will see the platform enter the markets of Japan, Brazil, and Australia before the close of the current year, with a subsequent launch planned for the UK in 2026. This move addresses a highly requested feature from its user base, and the AltStore team awaits further details from Apple regarding specific timelines for these international rollouts.

In parallel with its geographical expansion, AltStore is making a significant technological leap by integrating with the fediverse. This initiative involves leveraging the ActivityPub protocol to seamlessly deliver app updates and news alerts directly from AltStore to a wider, open social web. This integration will enable each AltStore source to possess its own ActivityPub account, which users can follow from any compatible social platform. Crucially, interactions such as likes, boosts, and replies made on external fediverse platforms like Mastodon or Threads will be natively displayed within the AltStore application, fostering a more connected community experience. To facilitate this, AltStore is collaborating with Mastodon gGmbH for server management and A New Social for Bluesky support via the Bridgy Fed tool, with these innovative fediverse features expected to be rolled out within the next few months.

To support its ambitious growth and development plans, AltStore has secured a substantial $6 million investment from Pace Capital, led by Patreon board member Chris Paik. This funding is earmarked for increasing staffing capacity and bolstering the resources required to finalize the fediverse integration and drive AltStore’s worldwide expansion. As part of this investment, Chris Paik will join AltStore’s board of directors, along with Flipboard CEO Mike McCue, a notable advocate for the fediverse. This investment underscores confidence in AltStore’s vision to offer more diverse app distribution channels and foster open social web integration, empowering users with greater choice and connectivity in the mobile ecosystem.
