When passengers are waiting in a parked car, the minutes can tick by slowly. This common experience inspired the developer of Xtream Player, an application for Android Auto, to integrate simple games directly into the car's display. The recently released version 1.4.0 of Xtream Player introduces this gaming functionality, alongside refreshed icons, enhancements for YouTube Music, and various fixes for media playback.

Xtream Player serves as the successor to Fermata Xtream, which gained popularity among Android Auto users for its capability to enable video playback and other non-native functionalities on compatible car screens. After discontinuing Fermata Xtream, the developer launched a completely re-engineered application. The current update signifies a substantial advancement for this project, with the most notable addition being a new Games extension exclusively for Premium members. Initially featuring games such as Chess and Connect 4, the developer plans to broaden the selection in the coming months, emphasizing that these games are strictly for use when the vehicle is stationary.

Beyond the gaming features, the update also benefits both free and premium versions of Xtream Player with updated in-app icons. YouTube Music receives several quality-of-life improvements, including the automatic dismissal of its trial pop-up and continuous background playback of the next song. Furthermore, Xtream Player 1.4.0 addresses a persistent problem where the display would turn black after using the side-panel skip control. Premium users will also notice additional FS Play corrections, such as resolving YouTube stuttering and reinstating controls for seeking, rewinding, and fast-forwarding. The developer is actively working on highly requested features, such as the ability to browse YouTube on a phone and stream videos directly to the car's display, and plans to introduce a comprehensive EPG program guide for IPTV and M3U channels. An upcoming update is anticipated soon to deliver further fixes and improvements.

This dedication to enhancing user experience, particularly by introducing entertainment options for stationary periods and continuously refining core functionalities, demonstrates a proactive approach to software development. Such innovations transform idle time into engaging moments and improve the overall utility of in-car infotainment systems, setting a positive precedent for future automotive technology advancements.
