Unlocking Instant Earnings: X Money Takes Center Stage for Creators
Transition to X Money: A New Era for US Creator Payments
Effective immediately, X has mandated that all payouts to its US-based creators, encompassing both the Original Content Rewards Program and direct subscriptions, will be exclusively processed through its native X Money platform. This change marks a departure from the previous system, which relied on Stripe for payment distribution.
Instant Access: The Primary Advantage of X Money Payouts
A key benefit highlighted by X for this transition is the immediacy of payments. Creators will no longer face delays associated with traditional billing cycles or be required to meet minimum thresholds before accessing their earned funds. This stands in contrast to the prior system, where payouts occurred bi-weekly with a minimum threshold of $30.
Mandatory Adoption: X Money Becomes the Sole Payout Method for US Creators
The announcement indicates that X Money is now the singular option for receiving earnings within the platform for US creators. This implies that creators previously preferring Stripe's services will now be required to adopt X Money. An X representative confirmed this mandatory shift for US users, while international creators will continue to utilize Stripe.
Broader Changes in Creator Programs and X's 'Everything App' Vision
This payment system alteration is not an isolated event but rather part of a series of changes to X's creator programs. The Creator Revenue Sharing Program is slated for retirement on September 7, with creators being redirected to the Original Content Rewards Program, which places a greater emphasis on unique content. The introduction of X Money aligns with Elon Musk's overarching goal of transforming X into an "everything app," a platform integrating various services including digital banking. X Money offers features such as a bank card with cashback, instant transactions, and complimentary ATM withdrawals, though it functions as a service provided by Cross River Bank, an FDIC-insured institution, rather than a bank itself.
Financial Incentives and Tax Compliance for X Money Users
X's announcement also noted that creator payouts will contribute towards users' direct deposit requirements, potentially enabling them to access more favorable Annual Percentage Yield (APY) rates offered by X Money. Specifically, X Premium users are eligible for a boosted 6% APY, compared to the standard 4%. Furthermore, X will issue 1099-NEC forms for individual creators and collect W-9 information from LLCs to ensure accurate tax reporting.
