Twelve Securis, a prominent investment manager specializing in catastrophe bonds and insurance-linked securities (ILS), has announced the addition of André Botma to its ILS Investment Management team as a new Portfolio Manager. This strategic hiring is a direct consequence of the firm's recent organizational overhaul, which aims to merge its catastrophe bond and private ILS operations under a single, cohesive ILS Investment Management platform. This integration is designed to streamline and enhance its management of dedicated strategies and diverse investment portfolios.
In his capacity as Portfolio Manager, Mr. Botma will collaborate closely with the established teams at Twelve Securis, encompassing portfolio management, analytics, trading, and Catastrophe & Climate Research. His contributions are expected to span across the firm's comprehensive ILS investment framework, leveraging his extensive background to bolster existing capabilities.
Twelve Securis emphasized that Mr. Botma's experience significantly enriches their team's depth, while affirming that the company's core investment philosophy, portfolio construction methodologies, and robust risk management framework will remain consistent and unchanged despite these enhancements.
Based in Zurich, Mr. Botma brings a wealth of expertise, accumulated over more than a quarter-century, in the fields of insurance-linked securities, general insurance, and broader financial markets. His distinguished career includes substantial experience in managing both catastrophe bond and private ILS portfolios, as well as in the critical areas of portfolio construction and asset allocation strategies.
Before joining Twelve Securis, Mr. Botma held a senior position as Portfolio Manager at Euler ILS Partners, a Swiss specialist in insurance-linked securities investment management. Prior to his tenure at Euler ILS Partners, he spent several years at Credit Suisse Group AG as a Senior Portfolio Manager for Insurance Linked Strategies. This division was later acquired by UBS Group AG in 2023. Notably, in mid-2024, UBS agreed to divest the Credit Suisse Insurance Linked Strategies Ltd. business to its incumbent management team, led by Niklaus Hilti, subsequently leading to the formation of Euler ILS Partners Ltd.
Earlier in his professional journey, before his focus shifted to ILS portfolio management at Credit Suisse, Mr. Botma held various roles in structured products at leading capital markets firms in South Africa, further diversifying his financial sector experience.
This appointment underscores Twelve Securis' ongoing commitment to strengthening its leadership and expertise within the insurance-linked securities market. By bringing in seasoned professionals like Mr. Botma, the firm is well-positioned to navigate the complexities of the market and continue delivering value through its integrated ILS investment platform. The enhanced team structure and strategic focus on combined ILS capabilities are anticipated to optimize operational efficiency and investment performance, reinforcing Twelve Securis' standing as a key player in the ILS landscape.
