Threads, Meta's burgeoning social media platform, has recently marked a significant achievement, cementing its position as a major player in the digital conversation space. Launched as a direct challenger to established microblogging sites, Threads has demonstrated remarkable growth in its relatively short lifespan, attracting a vast and engaged user base. This rapid expansion highlights the platform's evolving features and its increasing resonance with users seeking dynamic online interactions.

Threads: A Rapid Ascent in the Social Media Sphere

Remarkable Expansion: Threads' User Base Skyrockets

Just two years after its inception, Meta's social networking service, Threads, has reported an impressive user count, reaching over 400 million monthly active participants. This substantial increase was confirmed by Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, underscoring the platform's swift ascent since its launch.

Continued Momentum: Adding Millions Quarterly

The latest figures reveal that Threads successfully attracted an additional 50 million monthly users within the last quarter. This follows an earlier announcement by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg in late April, stating the platform had already surpassed 350 million monthly active users, showcasing consistent and robust growth.

Competitive Landscape: Threads vs. X in User Engagement

While Threads continues its upward trajectory, its rival, X (formerly Twitter), still maintains a larger overall monthly active user base, exceeding 600 million according to prior statements from its former CEO, Linda Yaccarino. However, recent analytics from Similarweb indicate that Threads is narrowing the gap in terms of daily mobile application users, reporting 115.1 million daily active users in June 2025—a remarkable 127.8% year-over-year surge. In contrast, X recorded 132 million daily active users, experiencing a 15.2% decline over the same period.

Digital Footprint: Web Traffic Disparity Between Platforms

Despite Threads' strong performance in mobile app usage, X retains a significant lead in global daily web visits. In June, X registered an average of 145.8 million daily web visits worldwide, while Threads trailed with just 6.9 million, indicating a difference in how users engage with each platform across various access points.

Innovation as a Growth Engine: Feature Development on Threads

Threads' accelerated growth can be attributed to its continuous development and the introduction of a variety of new features over the past year. These enhancements include direct messaging capabilities, expanded fediverse integrations for broader connectivity, personalized custom feeds, and advanced AI-powered functionalities, all designed to enrich the user experience and foster a more engaging environment.
