While Samsung's One UI 9, powered by Android 17, delivers a robust and customizable user experience, particularly for foldable devices, its much-hyped Galaxy AI features, such as Now Brief and Now Nudge, have yet to reach their full potential. The system maintains Samsung's reputation for dependable software and timely updates, but the integration and seamlessness of its artificial intelligence capabilities still lag behind Google's Pixel offerings. This disparity highlights a crucial area where Samsung must innovate further to make Galaxy AI a compelling reason for consumers to choose its smartphones over competitors.

One UI 9's AI Features Face Scrutiny Amidst Strong Core Performance

In October 2026, tech reviewer Stephen Radochia of Android Authority evaluated Samsung's newest One UI 9. While acknowledging its overall stability and improvements, particularly in customization and foldable device multitasking, Radochia expressed disappointment in the practical application of Samsung's artificial intelligence features, Now Brief and Now Nudge. He noted that despite high hopes, Now Brief often fails to deliver personalized news, frequently displaying irrelevant or unsettling crime stories, a recurring issue for over two years. Similarly, Now Nudge, intended as an assistive AI system, suffers from inconsistent contextual cues, making it less effective than promised. Radochia also critiqued My FanCam and generative photo editing, finding them less intuitive and efficient compared to Google Pixel's counterparts, despite the strong AI collaboration between the two companies. He argued that Google has achieved a more natural integration of AI, exemplified by features like Gemini Intelligence and Rambler.

The Road Ahead for Samsung's AI Ambitions

Samsung has undeniably come a long way from the days of its clunky TouchWiz interface, evolving into a leader in software reliability and timely updates. One UI 9 stands as a testament to this progress, offering a stable and highly customizable platform that many users, especially those with foldable phones, deeply appreciate. However, the current implementation of Galaxy AI features like Now Brief and Now Nudge suggests that Samsung might be overstating their impact as a primary selling point. While the ambition to integrate advanced AI is commendable, the user experience falls short of the seamless, intuitive assistance found on competing devices, particularly Google's Pixel line. For Galaxy AI to truly become a decisive factor for consumers, Samsung must refine these features, ensuring they offer tangible benefits and integrate more harmoniously into daily use. Until then, One UI 9 remains a solid operating system, but its AI promises still await their full realization.
