Experience Takes the Helm: Ronaldson Rises to Pillar Capital's Financial Leadership

Kevin Ronaldson's Ascent to Chief Financial Officer at Pillar Capital

Pillar Capital Management Limited, a leading Bermuda-based firm focused on collateralized reinsurance and insurance-linked securities (ILS) investments, has recently announced the promotion of Kevin Ronaldson to the role of Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

A Wealth of Expertise in the ILS Sector

Ronaldson, a well-recognized figure within the insurance-linked securities investment community and based in Bermuda, initially joined Pillar Capital Management in January of the current year. His journey in the ILS and reinsurance-linked investment sphere began in 2008, when he relocated to Bermuda to take on an accounting position with Prime Management, concentrating on hedge and reinsurance funds.

From Senior Fund Accountant to CFO: A Decade of Growth

During his tenure at Prime Management, Ronaldson advanced to a senior fund accountant, where he was instrumental in calculating net asset values for ILS funds. His responsibilities included analyzing various financial instruments such as collateralized reinsurance, catastrophe bonds, sidecars, and industry loss warranties (ILW). In 2013, he moved to AlphaCat Managers, then an ILS investment division of Validus, progressing from Financial Accountant to eventually becoming its Chief Financial Officer in 2021.

Transitioning Through Key Industry Mergers and Acquisitions

Following RenaissanceRe's acquisition of Validus's reinsurance operations from AIG in 2023, Ronaldson transitioned to Head of Operations for RenaissanceRe Capital Partners. In this capacity, he oversaw the reinsurance firm’s third-party capital and ILS management activities, further broadening his operational experience.

New Leadership at Pillar Capital: A Strategic Advancement

After nine months of dedicated service at Pillar Capital, Ronaldson now assumes the critical role of CFO, guiding the financial strategy of the prominent ILS manager. This advancement was a pre-planned organizational move, allowing Tara Railton, who previously held both COO and CFO roles, to now focus exclusively on the operational aspects of the business, its strategic direction, and growth initiatives. Ronaldson will report directly to Railton, managing all financial responsibilities.
