MacPaw is actively developing a localized iteration of its AI assistant, Eney, introduced last year. To achieve this, the company has enlisted Liquid AI to construct an on-device inference engine, dubbed Elix, alongside a dedicated local memory system. Ramin Hasani, co-founder and CEO of Liquid AI, highlighted that their approach involves designing model architectures specifically tailored for hardware, ensuring maximum efficiency when running AI directly on devices. This method offers significant benefits in terms of data privacy and security. MacPaw's CEO, Oleksandr Kosovan, further emphasized that local AI processing will enable users to operate assistants and complex agentic workflows even without an internet connection, broadening the utility and accessibility of AI-driven tools. While Apple offers its own local models for developers, Liquid AI distinguishes itself by focusing on superior performance across diverse capabilities and developing a customization stack that allows models to adapt and learn from user input, continually improving over time.

MacPaw is setting its sights on a future where its subscription-based app store, SetApp, with over 150,000 active subscribers, becomes a thriving marketplace for AI-powered applications. Upon finalizing the local processing framework with Liquid AI, MacPaw intends to open this advanced technological infrastructure to developers, allowing them to implement on-device inference within their own applications. This will not only include Liquid AI's solutions but also provide access to other cloud-based models from providers like Google, establishing SetApp as a central platform for AI development.
