This software, known as the LG Monitor App Installer, is deployed when certain LG UltraGear and UltraFine monitors are connected to a PC. An investigation by Gamers Nexus revealed that after 32 system reboots, McAfee was advertised 31 times, with the final boot promoting LG's own monitor utility. This app has broad system resource and internet access capabilities, and its associated privacy policy suggests it may collect extensive user data, including personal details and online activity, raising significant privacy concerns.
This practice has been noted in user reports since at least 2024, with a recent surge in complaints suggesting a wider deployment or more aggressive advertisement delivery. Such actions by manufacturers like LG and even Dell are particularly troubling, especially given the high cost of these monitors.
