During a recent address in Monte Carlo, Silke Sehm, a key figure on Hannover Re's Executive Board, highlighted the considerable achievements of Hannover Re Capital Partners (HCP), the company's dedicated platform for managing insurance-linked securities (ILS). HCP has successfully broadened its portfolio by securing a significant, albeit lower three-digit million, capital injection through its initial third-party mandate. This has led to an increase in non-proportional catastrophe business written in the current year.

Hannover Re established HCP in early 2026, articulating its purpose as a crucial component in enhancing the reinsurer's ILS offerings. The platform commenced underwriting activities at the outset of 2026, specifically targeting the January 1st reinsurance renewals. The company emphasized that HCP is strategically positioned within a market segment exhibiting strong growth potential, leveraging Hannover Re's extensive experience and global client base to benefit both insurance clients and investors.

Sehm further elaborated on HCP's role in advancing Hannover Re's footprint in the ILS sector during the Monte Carlo media briefing. She noted the company's leading position in both structured business (termed advanced solutions) and ILS, both of which consistently contribute substantial and stable profits to the group. This growth, she added, requires relatively minimal capital. In the broader context of ILS, Hannover Re facilitates client access to the market, transferring a considerable volume of catastrophe bonds to the capital markets. This amounted to $3.4 billion in the preceding year and $2.3 billion in the current year, with eight completed transactions. Michael Eberhardt, CEO of Hannover Re Capital Partners and Head of P&C, Hannover Re Bermuda, underscored the alignment with investors and a robust governance framework, ensuring clear allocation policies and leveraging the company's continuous investment in underwriting capabilities and risk assessment. This long-term partnership approach benefits investors through shared access to risk and a consistent investment strategy.

Hannover Re's commitment to strategic expansion and leveraging market opportunities through initiatives like Capital Partners exemplifies foresight and adaptability. By fostering strong partnerships and consistently refining its underwriting expertise, the company not only secures its own growth but also contributes to the stability and evolution of the global reinsurance and ILS markets. This approach underscores a dedication to innovation and responsible capital deployment, paving the way for continued success and resilience in a dynamic financial landscape.
