Another user investigating source links provided by the bot discovered a series of unrelated links pointing to reinforcement learning research websites. While TechCrunch could not replicate the exact error in independent tests, affected individuals reported consistent issues.
The affected users primarily utilized Grok Lite. The Grok community on Reddit has been inundated with complaints regarding this "word salad" phenomenon. Although refreshing the session often rectifies the problem, some users indicated that the erratic responses persisted even after multiple attempts to reset. The issue appears to be confined to direct queries on Grok.com, with the Grok account on X.com (formerly Twitter) remaining unaffected. In response to mounting user dissatisfaction, the official Grok account on X.com acknowledged the problem, describing it as a "rare temporary generation glitch" and advised users to initiate a new chat or regenerate responses, assuring them that the issue typically resolves promptly. This incident occurs amidst significant organizational changes at xAI, which has experienced substantial staff turnover in recent months. Reports from The Information in May revealed that the company lost the majority of its founding team and at least 50 researchers and engineers.
