Google has officially unveiled its latest innovation in personal computing: the Googlebook series. Following the announcement of Android 17, Google introduced the Googlebook, emphasizing its integration with Gemini Intelligence. The initial wave of Googlebook laptops has been revealed, with five official models confirmed to be part of the launch. These include the Acer Googlebook 14, Dell XPS Googlebook, Asus Googlebook 14, Lenovo Googlebook 15, and HP Googlebook 14. Although these devices are not yet available for purchase, they are anticipated to hit markets in the UK and US starting October 2026. This staggered release allows for detailed comparisons with existing products, such as Chromebooks and Windows 11 devices, helping consumers understand the unique value proposition of the Googlebook series.
Regarding pricing, there was initial hope that Googlebooks would maintain the affordability of Chromebooks, which can be found for as little as £249/$179. However, due to ongoing increases in RAM prices and limited availability of components, the Googlebook series is positioned at a higher price point. The most economical model, the Acer Googlebook 14, starts at $899/£999, while premium offerings from Asus and HP are expected to range between $1199 to $1299 (£1099 to £1199). Despite the higher cost, Google asserts that these laptops offer robust performance, justifying their price point by being included in lists of best budget and student-friendly laptops.
Google has confirmed that prominent manufacturers such as Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo will be among the first to release their versions of Googlebook laptops. A distinguishing feature across all Googlebook models, regardless of the brand, is the 'glowbar' – an intuitive indicator for battery status. Additionally, each Googlebook will incorporate a dedicated G Key and advanced authentication methods, including fingerprint sensors and, for select models, facial recognition, to ensure heightened security and user privacy. Google has further guaranteed that every Googlebook device will showcase 'premium craftsmanship and materials,' utilizing substances like aluminum and magnesium. Furthermore, all models will come equipped with a minimum of 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD storage, and offer at least 14 hours of battery life, underscoring Google's commitment to delivering high-quality and reliable computing experiences.
