Despite Google's assertions of a significantly more robust design, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold has once again demonstrated critical structural vulnerabilities during a rigorous durability evaluation, marking a concerning trend for the company's foldable devices.

During a comprehensive bend test, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold developed fractures along both antenna lines adjacent to the hinge mechanism. This failure point echoes those observed in its predecessors—the original Pixel Fold, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold—making it the fourth successive model to succumb to similar stresses. This consistent issue casts doubt on the practical application of Google's claim that the device has been re-engineered for three times greater strength and can endure millions of opening and closing cycles in controlled laboratory environments. Furthermore, the test revealed additional severe compromises, including the complete detachment of the outer display without the need for specialized tools, indicating a significant flaw in its assembly. While the rear composite panel remained intact, the battery's condition after the stress test was also noted as suboptimal. The screen's resistance to scratching was also evaluated, with the outer display showing marks at level six on the Mohs hardness scale and deeper grooves at level seven, while the inner flexible display, as is typical for such technology, scratched at level two. Both OLED panels sustained permanent damage during a burn test, with the inner display enduring approximately 20 seconds of direct flame exposure and the outer display lasting about 13 seconds before irreparable harm occurred. Moreover, despite carrying an IP68 rating, fine particulates managed to infiltrate the hinge mechanism during the examination, suggesting that while water resistance may be acceptable, the intricate moving parts of the hinge might not be fully safeguarded against dust and other small debris.

This repeated failure in critical durability tests suggests a persistent design challenge for Google's foldable smartphones. For consumers, this raises important questions about the long-term reliability and everyday resilience of these advanced devices, underscoring the need for continued innovation and rigorous real-world testing to ensure products meet user expectations for quality and sturdiness.
