Anysphere, the company behind the widely recognized AI coding editor Cursor, has introduced a new web-based application. This innovative platform enables users to efficiently manage an array of coding agents directly from their internet browsers, signaling a significant evolution beyond Cursor's initial integrated development environment (IDE) that serves as the primary access point for its developer tools.
This latest offering builds upon Cursor's recent advancements, which include the introduction of autonomous background agents in May, capable of independently resolving coding challenges. Further enhancing user interaction, a Slack integration was launched in June, allowing developers to assign tasks to these background agents simply by tagging @Cursor, mirroring the functionality seen in other AI coding agents. The new web application now extends this capability, enabling users to submit natural language commands via desktop or mobile browsers to instruct agents on tasks such as feature development or bug resolution. Furthermore, the web app facilitates real-time monitoring of agent progress and the seamless integration of completed changes into the codebase.
Andrew Milich, Cursor's head of product engineering, emphasized that these developments, including the Slack integration and the web app, are part of a broader strategy to streamline the user experience. This focus on user convenience appears to be yielding positive results, as Anysphere recently announced that Cursor has surpassed $500 million in annualized recurring revenue, primarily driven by monthly subscriptions. The company also reported that over half of the Fortune 500 companies, including industry giants like NVIDIA, Uber, and Adobe, now utilize Cursor. To further capitalize on this expanding user base, Anysphere has also rolled out a new Pro subscription tier priced at $200 per month, complementing its existing $20-per-month Pro plan and higher-tier offerings.
The advancement of AI reasoning models is now deemed sufficient to make coding agents practical and reliable. Anysphere's CEO, Michael Truell, anticipates that AI coding agents will undertake at least 20% of a software engineer's workload by 2026.
