Cedar Trace ILS, the Bermudian specialist in insurance-linked securities and a subsidiary of Cedar Trace Capital Management Group, closely affiliated with Mereo Insurance, has recently unveiled a series of executive advancements and a strategic new recruit. These pivotal changes aim to enhance the firm's operational and investment management strengths within the dynamic ILS sector. This organizational restructuring reflects a deliberate strategy to reinforce its commitment to meticulous underwriting, diverse portfolio construction, and the pursuit of optimal risk-adjusted returns, signifying a new chapter in its growth trajectory.
At the forefront of these leadership transitions is Fergus Reynolds, who is slated to take on the Chief Executive Officer position, pending necessary regulatory, immigration, and board approvals. Reynolds, who became part of Cedar Trace ILS in 2025 as the Head of ILS, brings a wealth of expertise from his extensive background in the insurance and reinsurance markets. His new role as CEO will be instrumental in steering Cedar Trace ILS through its forthcoming stages of expansion and innovation.
Prior to his tenure at Cedar Trace ILS, Reynolds held the position of Head of Third-Party Capital at IQUW, a global re/insurer. His impressive career also includes serving as Chief Underwriting Officer for retrocession at Bernina Re, a Credit Suisse-affiliated reinsurer, and dedicating over five years to Securis Investment Partners, where he led Non-Life Origination. He also garnered valuable underwriting experience at Antares and Brit.
Further strengthening the executive team, William Luu is set to be promoted to Chief Operating Officer of Cedar Trace Capital Management Limited, subject to regulatory and board endorsement. Luu's responsibilities will encompass overseeing operations and bolstering the investment management capabilities of Cedar Trace ILS as it continues to develop and grow. Luu joined the firm around the same time as Reynolds in 2025, initially serving as Managing Director, Cedar Trace ILS. His previous role was Vice President at Aon Insurance Managers, where he spearheaded business development and managed collateralized reinsurance offerings, including catastrophe bonds and special purpose insurers.
Another key promotion is James Spence, who moves into the role of Portfolio Manager. Spence, who started as a Senior Analyst around the firm's launch in 2025, will now be responsible for portfolio construction, investment strategy, and risk management across Cedar Trace's diverse ILS portfolios. Complementing these promotions, Cedar Trace ILS has also welcomed Segundo Parra Jurado as a Senior ILS Analyst. Jurado, formerly with Hiscox Re, brings significant experience in the reinsurance and ILS industries, and will contribute to investment analysis, underwriting assessments, and ILS portfolio construction initiatives.
Neil Strong, Chairman of Cedar Trace ILS, expressed his enthusiasm for these developments, stating the promotions of Fergus, William, and James, alongside the addition of Segundo, mark a crucial milestone. He emphasized that these strategic appointments substantially enhance the firm's leadership and investment prowess, aligning with their objective to cultivate a distinctive ILS investment platform. This platform is designed to integrate profound reinsurance expertise with rigorous portfolio construction and disciplined risk management, ultimately aiming to identify compelling opportunities and deliver sustained value for their investors. Lawrence Minicone, CEO of Cedar Trace Capital Management, underscored that these individuals exemplify the company's core values, viewing their advancements as a testament to their dedication and insightful contributions.
Cedar Trace ILS currently offers a trio of strategies: Cedar Trace ILS Opportunities Limited, Cedar Trace ILS Diversified Limited, and Cedar Trace ILS Funds SAC Limited, all based in Bermuda. These strategies are designed to provide a spectrum of risk-return profiles and various access points to capitalize on opportunities within the broader insurance-linked securities market. Recently, Cedar Trace also unveiled plans for its inaugural Lloyd’s syndicate, with anticipated funding from investors supporting Cedar Trace Capital Management's insurance-linked securities funds.
