The highly popular mobile game, Block Blast!, which captured the title of the most downloaded game in 2025, has made its debut on Apple's premium gaming subscription platform, Apple Arcade. Apple officially announced the integration of an advertisement-free version of Block Blast!, known as Block Blast!+, into its service. This puzzle sensation boasts an impressive global install base, estimated to be around 725 million according to Appfigures, with other analyses suggesting an even higher figure of 868 million downloads.

Beginning September 3rd, Block Blast!+ will be accessible on Apple Arcade, alongside other notable additions, including Art of Fauna: Cozy Puzzles+, a recipient of a 2025 App Store Award. Internal data from Apple reveals that Block Blast! consistently held the top spot as the most downloaded free iPhone game throughout 2025 and maintained its leading position in the initial months of 2026. Developer Hungry Studio and other third-party analytics firms like Sensor Tower have corroborated its sustained popularity, with tens of millions of new users joining each month.

While Block Blast! continues to attract a massive audience, evidenced by its 70 million daily active users and 300 million monthly active users globally, and even a presence at events like Coachella, a closer examination of download trends suggests a potential maturation of the title from its peak in late 2024. During that period, it recorded nearly 50 million monthly downloads. This shift makes it an ideal candidate for Apple's subscription model, offering a solution to a significant user grievance. The Arcade version directly addresses the frequent advertisements that interrupt gameplay after each loss, a common frustration that has led many players to manually restart the app to bypass ads. The Apple Arcade service, priced at $6.99 monthly, or bundled within Apple One plans starting at $19.95/month, provides an appealing ad-free alternative. Additionally, other games slated for release on Apple Arcade on September 3rd include NFL Retro Bowl ’27, Coloring Games for Families+, and Let’s Play! Oink Games+, a compilation of nine digital tabletop games.

The transition of such a widely played free-to-play title to a premium, ad-free platform like Apple Arcade highlights a growing trend in the mobile gaming industry. It reflects a strategic move by developers and platforms to cater to user demands for an uninterrupted gaming experience, while simultaneously exploring new revenue streams beyond traditional advertising. This evolution offers players enhanced quality of life, allowing them to fully immerse themselves in their favorite games without the constant distraction of commercial breaks. It’s a testament to the idea that a superior user experience, even for highly successful titles, can still be innovated upon and monetized in fresh and beneficial ways for both creators and consumers.
