Anthony Edwards recently commented on the Minnesota Timberwolves' inclusion among the teams LeBron James might consider joining. The rising star, however, admitted he does not currently see his team as a primary option for James.
Edwards elaborated on his stance, stating, "I have nothing to add because I've seen his top three teams, and we're not on that list." This statement followed his previous lighthearted attempt to recruit the four-time NBA MVP, where he playfully urged James to "Come to Minnesota. We got your card, man."
As James approaches his 24th NBA season, speculation about his next move is intense. The Timberwolves continue to be mentioned as a possibility, alongside other prominent franchises like the Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers, Philadelphia 76ers, and Golden State Warriors. ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins even highlighted Minnesota as an ideal basketball fit for James if his priority is to pursue another championship, citing the team’s robust roster, including Edwards, the recently acquired LaMelo Ball, and a formidable defensive unit.
The Timberwolves concluded their previous season with a 49-33 record, securing the No. 6 seed in the Western Conference. They advanced past the Denver Nuggets in the first round but were ultimately defeated by the San Antonio Spurs in the conference semifinals. The Spurs then reached the NBA Finals before falling to the New York Knicks.
Minnesota has since bolstered its lineup by bringing in Ball and Josh Green from the Charlotte Hornets, while trading Julius Randle to the Brooklyn Nets. Randle contributed significantly last season, averaging 21.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 5.0 assists. James, at 41, demonstrated his continued prowess with the Los Angeles Lakers, averaging 20.9 points, 7.2 assists, and 6.1 rebounds, and could potentially fill a similar offensive role. Edwards remains a cornerstone for Minnesota, having delivered an impressive season with averages of 28.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.7 assists. The team's defensive strength is anchored by Rudy Gobert and Jaden McDaniels, who also made significant contributions. While other teams, including the Golden State Warriors, are actively seeking to entice James, his final decision remains a major storyline as the NBA offseason unfolds.
