The Role of SafetyCore in Content Identification
The Sensitive Content Warning system, already implemented in Google Messages, automatically detects, blurs, and warns users about explicit incoming or outgoing images and videos. This capability is driven by Android System SafetyCore, a foundational Google service designed to provide a unified framework for apps to safeguard users from unwanted content. SafetyCore operates entirely on-device, ensuring that content classification data is not shared with Google, thereby upholding user privacy.
How Sensitive Content Warnings Function
SafetyCore is activated only when an application specifically requests content classification. For instance, in Google Messages, media is only classified if sent via the app with the Sensitive Content Warnings feature enabled. This design ensures that the system is used intentionally and only when relevant to the application's functionality.
Future Integration with Android Photo Picker
Evidence found in Android 17 QPR2 Beta 4 code indicates that Google is working to bring Android System SafetyCore functionality directly into the Android Photo Picker. Preventing Accidental Sharing and Protecting Minors
